Dr. Ward hits high notes in chamber master class

04/14/2013

Dr. Miriam English- Ward master class CMC chamber programOn April 14 Dr. Miriam Ward gave a master class for the students in CMC's chamber music program. It was both an informative and fun experience for the students and attendees.  Dr. Ward, a violist, shared her extensive chamber music experience.

To a second violinist and violist in one group playing Beethoven she said, "The middle voices have a very difficult challenge. You are the heart and soul of the quartet." To help another student project their sound in CMC's auditorium she said " Aim your sound at the art work on the back wall!"

If there was a theme to the class it was to have the students play more expressively.  "Playing perfect is always a lesser good than playing something interesting."  Dr. Ward suggested that students take advantage of the opportunity to listen to artists of the last Century. They can learn from those artists' free and expressive playing.

Dr. Ward was able to mentor the students courtesy of the Naomi Blumberg Chamber Music Fund.
