A Perform-a-thon of FREE Concerts to Benefit Music Students

What: The start of Portland Parks & Recreation’s Community Music Center’s Making Musicians Festival

Where: Portland Parks & Recreation’s Community Music Center, 3350 SE Francis Street, Portland, 97202

When: Beginning Friday, March 15, 2013, at 7:15 pm.

Cost: Most concerts are FREE with suggested donation of $5.00 ($15 for a family of any size).

Hundreds of musicians - young and young-at-heart - will bring harmony to the community in over two dozen concerts this spring, beginning Friday, March 15. The Making Musicians Festival raises funds for need-based music scholarships through sponsorships and individual donations.

Students who are participating in any one of the concerts/recitals can great prizes such as a Samsung tablet computer by getting sponsors & donations.  See more info.

Individuals can sponsor a student, a concert, or the whole festival with a tax-deductible donation. See more info.

From kids choir to adult fiddle band, Renaissance Madrigals to Piazzolla Tangos, pupils to professionals, the Festival offerings will show attendees the variety and quality of the Community Music Center’s programs.

The March 15 kick-off concert features impressive young players and high school-age virtuosi, including Suzuki group violin class students of Elizabeth Peyton, Suzuki group cello class students of Jon Cheskin, viola choir students of Cynthia Scott, The Center Singers youth choir directed by Mark Woodward, and two chamber music ensembles, coached by David Kerr and Andrew Ehrlich.

Sponsorships of the Festival may be made online, over the phone, or in person at the Community Music Center. Donations go to the non-profit Community Music Center, Inc. and are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

The Community Music Center (CMC) is a Portland Parks & Recreation facility in partnership with an all-volunteer nonprofit organization CMC, Inc., that raises money to help subsidize tuition fees at the school. It serves families across the Portland area and supports those with limited economic means by increasing access to music performances and educational opportunities.
