Job Opening: Group Piano Class Instructor

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) seeks a qualified piano group class instructor with training and experience for teaching youth and adults. The position is for classes at the Community Music Center (SE 33rd & Francis).  Days of work depend on programs and enrollment. Wages are $21 - $35 per hour depending on education, training, and experience.

The position requires knowledge, and experience in playing and teaching piano in a group class setting, skill in teaching multiple ages and experience levels, excellent communication skills, and ability to be punctual, dependable, and work as part of a team.

Job duties include: developing lesson plans & curriculum related to area of assignment based upon overall program objectives & guidelines; preparing materials for instructing lessons; monitoring participation & evaluating student progress; and consultations with students’ parents/guardians as needed.

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) seeks a qualified early childhood music class instructor with training and experience for teaching youth group classes ages 6 mo to 5 yrs. Days of work depend on programs and enrollment. Wages are $21 - $35 per hour depending on education, training, and experience.

The position requires knowledge, and experience in group general music class instruction for preschool age youth, including Orff Schulwerk, Kodaly or Dalcroze, skill in teaching multiple ages and experience levels, excellent communication skills, and ability to be punctual, dependable, and work as part of a team.

Job Opening: Summer Program Counselor

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) seeks a qualified Summer Program Counselor  Days of work depend on programs and enrollment. Wages from $16.50 per hour.

This position sets up/breaks down, stores and tracks equipment and supplies for specialized music activities in parks and monitors music classes, lessons, and ensembles, registered participants and spectators. Prior experience in music generally enables employees in this position to be more successful. The position involves lifting and moving a variety of equipment for a large part of each shift.

Locations: Kenilworth Park (SE 34th & Holgate) and Lincoln Park (SE 135th Avenue and Mill Street)

Shift Range: 4 – 8 hours per day (afternoon through early evening)/ up to 4 days a week depending on programming.
