Graduates 2020

07/07/2020

CMC salutes all the musical graduates out there, and especially the following students who've been a part of the CMC family for a number of years:

Samuel Andras started at CMC in 2008 with violin lessons from Elizabeth Peyton, then subsequently with Brian Bennett for a year, and Andrew Ehrlich for the last 3 years. He’s been a participant in the CMC orchestras, under director Margaret Murer, and in the chamber music program. Samuel has had several years of piano training as well. He graduated from Grand View Christian Academy, and plans to attend West Coast Bible College in Lancaster, California this fall to study Pastoral Theology.

Nayantara Arora has been a violinist in CMC’s chamber music program for her last two years of high school, but actually had her first CMC encounter – a Suzuki violin group playthrough - in 2010. She’s been a violin student of Andrew Ehrlich’s since 2015, also learned string bass and harmonium, and dances Bharata Natyam (Google it – it is cool!). In high school she was a member of both the Trim Music Honor Society and the National Honor Society, and received the National Security Youth Language Initiative Scholarship. Nayantara moves from St. Mary’s Academy in the spring to University of Oregon this fall as a Stamps Scholar (1 of 10 in the US) with a tentative International Studies and Neuroscience major and Global Heath minor. Her interest in learning languages will be an obvious help in this endeavor! (Photo, right: on right)

Corinne Hare as been a CMC student her whole student life, starting in skills classes with teacher Shera Sinell back in 2003, which she continued in for 8 years. She branched out into Suzuki violin, orchestra, and chamber music through her senior year. She also played in the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Vivaldi Strings and Concert Orchestra, and even participated in the Reed College Orchestra last year. Her violin instructor was Andrew Ehrlich since 2007, but she also took lesson from Lucia Atkinson and Rachel Lambert for a few summers. Other interests include volleyball, equestrian, and tech. Corinne is a member of the National Honor Society, and is Salutatorian and International Baccalaureate at Cleveland High School. She goes on to Vassar College in New York to study computer science and Chinese. (Photo, right: on left)

Adam Pua has had an extensive music career even before finishing Clackamas High School as Valedictorian. A student of Katherine Schultz since 2013 (and John Hubbard and Jamie Conzatti going back to 2007), he was selected as Metro Arts Van Buren winner to play a concerto with a professional orchestra. He performed with the Portland Youth Philharmonic for five seasons, and also played with the PYP Camerata as well as performing in PYP quartets. He was an active member of his school’s award-winning chamber orchestra, serving as principal chair for 3 years. Adam was selected and played in both the All State and All Northwest orchestras, and placed 5th in State for solo cello. He has performed in small ensembles with the Portland Summer ensemble for 4 years. Summer music festivals included Marrowstone, playing as co-principal cello in their advanced orchestra, and Interlochen Summer Arts Festival, participating in the advanced string quartet program as a performance scholarship recipient. Adam will study at the Peabody Institute of Music at Johns Hopkins University this fall.
