50 Years on Francis Street

CMC Timeline

1955 Classes begin at the Knott Street Community Center (now called the Matt Dishman Community Center) under the name Community Music Center.

1957 The program moves to the Woodstock (a former firehouse).

1960 Community Music Center Inc. is formed, a non-profit established to support the Parks music program.

1969 The Francis Street Firehouse was renovated as CMC’s new home. The inaugural concert was October 12th.

1999 The building was renovated for seismic stability (with the exception of the tower) and ADA access.
