Meet Michael
CMC's new music programs coordinator

Please help us welcome Michael Shay as our newest CMC staff team member. Michael comes to us with experience as a music school administrator, business owner, performer, songwriter/composer, producer, and recording artist. Michael received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Prescott College in Arizona. He founded an early-childhood music school in Austin, Texas, and toured nationally and internationally as a multi-instrumentalist (his main instrument is cello – yes, another cellist!) vocalist, and bandleader in a variety of musical genres. You can hear him play and sing online at michaelshay.com, or send him an email at cmc@portlandoregon.gov.

Michael has taught lessons on cello, guitar, bass guitar, piano, in music theory, coached chamber music, and given workshops on improvisation and "collaborative composition". He has endeavored to use music as a vehicle for cultural preservation and exchange, most notably as a cultural ambassador for the US Department of State in South America. ¡Sí, habla español!
