About the Production:

Set in Alta California in the 1830s, we have retained all of Rossini’s buoyant good humor and added a fresh twist for audiences of all ages.

Rosina is new in town. Fresh from México, she lives with her controlling, suspicious Uncle Bartolo, who is planning to marry her off to one of his rich, elderly friends. But Rosina is in love with the handsome chavo she saw in the plaza. She knows he likes her too, but they have a problem…she speaks only Spanish,
and he speaks only English! Enter the brilliant, bilingual vivales, Figaro! Porque a veces, ¡hasta el lenguaje del amor necesita traducción!

Enjoyed by audiences of all ages, Portland Opera To Go’s adaptation of The Barber of Seville is targeted for students 3rd through 12th grades. Each year, Portland Opera To Go travels throughout Oregon and SW Washington schools and community venues with a full-staged 50 minute, English-language adaptation of a famous opera.
